About Me

Hi! My name is Laura. I am a thirty-something single woman with no children who learned some hard financial and life lessons in my twenties. Ever since then, I have tried to live below my means and to find pleasure in the simple things of life.

I hope that you will find this blog to be a good mixture of ideas on how to save money and a single woman's viewpoint on simple living and other frugal or financial issues.

Sometimes you may agree with what I have to say, which is great. :) If you don't agree with what I say, I'd love to know why and what you think. Just do please remember that my perspective is coming from a single woman in her 30's. I realize that if I were part of a couple or had children that some of my viewpoints on life may be different.

Some simple pleasures in my life include reading (I am a bookaholic!), music (listening to and singing loudly off-key in the car or my apartment), blogging (obviously), cross stitch, cruising the net, exercise (running, pilates, strength training, biking, hiking, etc.), playing card or board games, reading the Bible.

My work life includes 8 years of teaching little ones, temp work as a Bus Survey project supervisor (learned a LOT about human nature doing that!), various clerical temp jobs, worked a temp job for 3 weeks at a trucking company (get to wear jeans to work and learn lots of new curse words), daycare assistant, 3 years as an admin assistant at an oil and gas company, and currently working at a gym as an independent contractor.

I was laid off from my oil and gas job in February, 2009 and eventually I realized that what I really wanted to do when I grew up was to be a school librarian. A job that deals with kids, books and computers-- what could be better? So, by this Fall I should be starting my Masters in Library Sciences. I'll have ample opportunities over the next 12 - 18 months to flex my penny-pinching skills - but a Masters in the end will be worth it!

So, if you enjoy getting your frugal and simple living ideas with a bit of personality and quirky humor thrown in once in awhile, you may just want to stick around and read awhile. :)

Oh, and if you are looking for a good children's book or two, check out my other blog: Children's Books For Storytime and Beyond
